Summer Enrichment Series for 6th through 9th Graders Conducted in small classes by a highly qualified English teacher Creative Writing - The possibilities are endless in this class for writing, presenting, and savoring the art of storytelling. This course offers students the opportunity to write with guided instruction in a variety of creative forms: poetry, short story, memoir, fairy tales, and more. Every class will feature one-on-one instruction, creative writing tips, inspiring prompts, writing, and sharing. Expository Writing - This course provides students with a solid foundation for academic essay writing in a small group environment that allows time for ample individual feedback. Students will learn and practice effective skills for brainstorming, organizing, composing, revising and editing essays. Students will be given a “toolkit” of strategies, academic discourse language, and formats that will benefit their writing in all classes. Instructional Book Clubs - The book club sessions provide the opportunity to read enriching literature with guidance and support. The literature chosen will be catered to the level and interests of the groups. Students will have the opportunity to analyze, discuss, interpret and understand the literature in depth. They will reflect on texts through a variety of lenses and practice close reading and questioning skills in regular academic discussions.
